Spotlight on Student Research: Champlain St. Lawrence at the 4thColloque interordre de la recherche étudiante en sciences sociales et humaines, en arts et en lettres

As part of theL’expérience qui fait la différenceproject, the Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC), in collaboration with the Centre de transfert pour la réussite éducative du Québec (CTREQ), held the 4th edition of theColloque interordre de la recherche étudiante en sciences sociales et humaines, en arts et en lettreson May 23 at UQAM. The event was designed to offer students from CEGEPs and universities the opportunity to take part in an event focused on scientific communication and knowledge transfer, to provide a networking space, and to recognize the effort and dedication they invest in their research activities.

The colloquium featured over 50 presentations - 34 by university students and 18 by CEGEP students. Impressively, St. Lawrence alone accounted for seven of the college presentations. Students Anthony Lemelin, Jonathan Pelletier and Maia Steer presented the results of their research conducted under the supervision of Jeffery Aubin, exploring the lives and works of selected Christian and Greek authors from the 2nd century. Bon Pham shared findings from a project developed as part of the Getting Involved course as well as a project completed in her Integrative Activity course, supervised respectively by Sean Otto and Thomas Welham. Katryna Laverdière, Elizabeth Topping and Kélya Boucher presented projects they carried out in their Advanced Topics in Psychology class with Michelle Khau.

Among the participants was also alumna Élisabeth Proteau, who began her research journey at St. Lawrence under the guidance of Carol-Anne Gauthier and continues to work as a research assistant with her. She is now studying psychology at the Université de Sherbrooke.

We are proud to highlight the outstanding contributions of our students, whose presentation titles and summaries can be found below. The college was pleased to facilitate their participation through financial support, helping make this enriching experience possible. Whereas Kélya shared that this colloquium allowed her to develop [herpeople skills and to have conversations that were very interesting and educational!, Anthony was impressed with “the staggering curiosity of many attendees, even though many had little to no prior knowledge of the subjects being presented”. He encourages anyone who likes to learn to attend this type of event!

We also extend our sincere thanks to the teachers who supervised and supported the students throughout their projects. Their dedication, mentorship, and encouragement played a vital role in making these achievements possible.

Join us in celebrating their dedication, curiosity, and the remarkable quality of their work!
