St. Lawrence Hosts Annual Pedagogical Day
On June 4th, St. Lawrence hosted its annual Pedagogical Day for faculty and staff, providing an opportunity for collaboration, professional development and meaningful discussions in preparation for the upcoming academic year.
The day began with a series of workshops focused on pedagogical innovation, effective teaching strategies, student engagement, grading efficiency, and best educational practices. These interactive workshops presented new approaches to teaching and learning. Attendees also participated in departmental discussions, an opportunity for teams to engage and reflect on key academic issues.
A highlight of the event was the Artificial Intelligence / Academic Integrity (AI/AI) Think Tank’s presentation on AI. Claudine Gélinas Faucher and Angela Stevens introduced new guidelines for AI use in the classroom, outlining three distinct levels: prohibited use, limited use, and framed use. This framework will guide faculty in determining whether AI use in their class can benefits students and, if so, how it can be integrated to support and enhance learning.
The event continued with a keynote presentation by guest speaker Floris Van Vugt, a psychology professor at the University of Montréal. His talk explored ongoing research in his lab, examining how neuroscience and psychology can foster constructive dialogue across societal divides. He provided scientific insights into human connection and polarization, offering strategies on how to improve discourse in our increasingly divided world.
The day concluded with a special ceremony honouring retiring faculty members and celebrating the successful completion of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this enriching day of learning. We look forward to applying these insights in the upcoming academic year.
