St. Lawrence Open House Draws 1150

The annual Fall Open House took place last night, bringing hundreds of prospective students and their families to the college. As usual, the event was well-attended, with this year's guest count once again breaking records. Around 1150 guests attended the evening's events, which included 15 presentations and even more booths run by staff, students, and teaching faculty.

The event kicked off at 5:30pm, with guests arriving as much as 45 minutes early. Curious attendees explored the college while awaiting the start of the first general presentation for students from French high schools, given in the Auditorium. The space was standing-room only as students and parents learned about the college's offerings and strengths, and how Law 14 will affect course sequences next year.

An almost equal number of people filed into the triple classroom for a presentation given by the Science department. Our most popular program, Science consistently draws a high degree of interest from future students and their families. After hearing from Science teachers, guests were able to visit the three labs - biology, chemistry and physics - to learn about the college's resources and watch student volunteers demonstrate simple experiments.

The student volunteers were the stars of the show, with those in red shirts shepherding guests around the college, and others providing information on programs, student groups and sports teams at booths in the gym and atrium.

Presentations from the Social Science, Business and ALC programs were all well-attended, as were those targeting students interested in joining the LIONS hockey team. A presentation for anglophone students, given by college Director Edward Berryman, was better-attended than ever, with many keen to hear about the English-language environment of the college.

The evening drew to a close around 8:30, as attendees headed out into the night with their newly obtained viewbooks and knowledge about the school. We hope some were inspired to apply for the Fall 2024 session.

If you missed last night's in-person event, you can learn more about the college at our Online Open House, coming up on January 30th, or by taking a Campus Tour on Friday, November 17th or Friday, December 1st.
