Round Two of the CCAA Golf Championship
The 2023 CCAA Golf National Championship, presented by PING, marks its halfway point with the completion of the second round on Wednesday at Club de Golf Lorette.
Michael Valk of Medicine Hat shot a 69, maintaining his lead from Round 1 with a -10 overall. New to the top three since yesterday are Félix Bouchard of André-Laurendeau, shooting a 71, and Mason Gorski of NAIT, with a 72. Their overall scores are -4 and -3, respectively.
The largest leaderboard rises of the day include John Van Bilsen (St. Clair), rising 9 spots, Spencer Higginbottom (St. Clair), up 10 spots, and Simon Ménard (André-Laurendeau), who shot a 73 and jumped 16 spots to tie 22nd with a +9.
Humber maintained its lead today, shooting a 292 for a combined score of 7 under par. André-Laurendeau came in second, shooting the day’s best of 290 strokes for a score of +3. St. Clair joins the top three today with a 294, a 10-stroke improvement on their performance from yesterday, thanks in part to Van Bilsen and Higginbottom’s great leaps up the leaderboard. The LIONS are bumped into fourth place by St. Clair.
Mackenzie Cloutier from John Abbott moved up one spot to the top of the leaderboard on the women’s side, shooting a 70 for an overall score of -1. She is joined in the top three by Humber students Elaine Surjoprajogo and Madison Ouellette, tied in second with a +6. Ouellette moved 4 places up the leaderboard today by shooting a 70, a 10-stroke improvement on her first-round score.
RSEQ-1 takes the lead with the day’s best score of 144, finishing a combined ten over par. OCAA comes in second by shooting a 149 for combined 18 over par, a solid improvement on their performance from Tuesday. OCAA-2 rounds out the top three with a 164, finishing 26 over par. St. Lawrence's Alicia Hénault finished the day with a +11, helping to propel RSEQ-1 to the top. Hénault is currently in fifth place among the individuals.
Round three on Thursday has a projected weather forecast of ten degrees at the 10am kickoff, rising to fifteen degrees in the afternoon. There will be a 35% chance of precipitation in the early morning, dropping off by the time play starts.
