Golfers Arrive to the CCAA Championship at Club de Golf Lorette
This morning saw the start of the CCAA - ACSC 2023 Golf Championship. This event is being hosted by St. Lawrence, in partnership with Golf Québec, and is taking place at the Club de Golf Lorette. Teams from around the country are here for the week to prove their prowess on the course amidst beautiful fall foliage. St. Lawrence is proud to welcome these teams of talented young people for this exciting event.
On Monday, October 16th, golfers arrived at the club. The day was crisp and mostly clear as teams filed in, provincial flags aloft, and the Opening Ceremony began. First, Alan Rogan, a representative of the CCAA board, spoke to the athletes. He expressed his appreciation for the great weather and thanked the hosts. He gave special mention to the Club de Golf Lorette for their maintenance of the course at a high level even this late in the season. He closed his speech by wishing the golfers good luck and a great week of golf and good times.
Next, St. Lawrence Director Edward Berryman took to the stage, welcoming the golfers to Quebec. This is the fourth time the college has hosted this event, he shared, which demonstrates how important this sport is to the college. Mr. Berryman stressed the importance of sport in general to students' development, something honoured and celebrated at St. Lawrence. He, too, thanked everyone involved in the planning and running of the event, mentioning several committee members by name. The short ceremony then came to a close.
Golfers found their way to the holes at which they would be starting their practice rounds, and play commenced just before 11am under a slight drizzle. The skills competition took place later in the afternoon, with results to be announced at tomorrow night's banquet.
More coverage of the Championship will be shared throughout the week on our social media and here on the News page of our website.
