St. Lawrence Honors its top Athletes at the Annual Sports Banquet

Champlain St. Lawrence Lions Athletic Program honored its top athletes May 4th during its annual sports banquet. Many athletes were given awards for their academic performances as well as their athletic performances.

Olivier Gervais from the Cross-Country Team and Audrey-Anne Blanchette from the Women’s Basketball team were named athletes of the year for their overall performances this year.

Audrey-Anne Blanchette’s many accomplishments were highlighted at the sports banquet. First, she was named on the RSEQ All-Star Team and finished with a 15 point per game average this season. She led the team to win the Provincial Championships in Chicoutimi with an impressive average of 19 points per game during the tournament. Audrey-Anne has been a model of work ethic, positivity, and determination for her teammates. These values have helped her progress throughout her three years at St. Lawrence and we are proud to announce that she will be joining the Rouge et Or at Université Laval next year.

Olivier Gervais had a tremendous season with our Cross-Country team. He finished in the top 8 in all RSEQ races, finishing with a 6th place at the Provincial Championships. This result qualified him for the CCAA National Championships in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where he impressed with a 20th place among 114 runners. Olivier has been successful on the track and in the classroom as he also won the Top Academic Award for the Cross-Country team.

For the second year in a row, the Lions Team of the Year award was given to the women’s basketball team. After winning the silver medal at provincials last year, our girls were looking for redemption. They finally got what they were hoping for, as they won the Provincial banner on April 16th in Chicoutimi. This team is a great example of commitment, effort, and mental strength.

Other notable award recipients are hockey player Ludovic D’Astous, who received the RSEQ Academic Merit Award. Emerick Bussières from the hockey team and Anaïs Trempe from the women’s basketball team won RSEQ Rookie of the Year awards.
