SLC Students Win Big at Cheerleading World Championships
Students Maélie Gingras, Arielle Lavoie and Leanne Simard joined their team Ace Athletics SWAT at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida from April 20-27th, 2023. The event took place at the ESPN World of Sports Complex in Orlando, and teams from 18 different countries joined the competition.
Gingras, Lavoie and Simard competed in the International Open All-Girl Level 5 category. There were 35 teams in the semi-finals, including an impressive 18 from Canada. Other competing countries included England, Australia, Spain, New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany. To move on to the finals, SWAT had to place in the top 3 in Canada. Despite some point deductions, they placed first among Canadian teams in the semi-finals and moved up to the finals, along with just 14 other teams.
Even though one of the stunt groups fell in the finals, SWAT came 1st, both in Canada and in the world. What an impressive achievement!
