SLC Fashion Show Raises over $4,000

On Saturday, April 22nd, the annual SLC Fashion Show took place. This year's event, hosted at the beautiful Espace St. Gregoire in Beauport, was an Homage to the Old and the New. The first half of the event featured a collection of ensembles styled in traditional ways, from a swinging '60s outfit to an array of suiting looks. The second half showcased more modern ensembles, including a variety of colour, pattern and texture. The show featured SLC students modelling clothing on loan from stores around the city, including some local businesses.

The promotional material for the Fashion Show provided the following description of the event's approach. "An Homage to the Old and the New pays tribute to the ever-growing industry that is fashion. Taking inspiration from past and recent attire, it attempts to capture the essence of the changes brought to the unique ways we have of expressing ourselves and dressing up with style."

The organizing committee, composed of just five students, had been working on the event for six months. The committee is typically made up of over a dozen students working together to bring this project to fruition, but this year the work fell entirely on Jonathan Crosman, Philippe Éléonore, Marie-Pierre Lebel, Lola Pearl O'Grady, and Maeva Mota Ouellet. The organizers were assisted by a team of helpers backstage - fellow students and friends.

"Fashion only has one goal," reads the Fashion Show's Instagram account, "[that] of connecting our exterior to our purest selves."

In the case of the SLC Fashion Show, though, another goal exists: this event is a fundraiser, with a different charitable organization chosen each year as the recipients of the profits. This year's charity was Educaide, an organization that provides struggling students with financial support to allow them to continue their studies. Two financing campaigns took place in the lead-up to the show, helping build excitement for the event itself. In total, the Fashion Show earned over $4,000, which will be donated to Educaide.

28 students modelled in the show, after having been chosen through an audition process. These were: Alexandra Chouinard, Amy DeLeon, Angelique Papillion, Annabelle Drouin, Audrey Lizotte, Audrey-Ann Lapointe, Bon Pham, Charles-Antoine Gauvin, Clara Buzzetti, Dylan Linh, Elsa Boivin, Florence Lecurs, Guillaume Nadeau, Hugo Ryan, Jeanne Boucher, Jules Piral, Justin Bauchemin, Lamine Gueye, Laurence Angers, Lilia Villeneuve, Louis-Philippe Huot, Maeva Lehoux, Marc-David Boignan, Simon Boucher, Soriya Casals, Thomas Drouin, Timoty Gagnon, and Vincent Harvey.
