Our Lions win the 2019 Ping Canadian Collegiate Golf Tournament!
The St. Lawrence Lions golf team has won the four top honours at the Canadian Collegiate Golf Tournament that was held last week at Le Continental golf club in Sorel. The Lions completed the tournament with a first place in both the men’s and women’s team competition. The Lions added to that the individual first places for both men and women, therefore sweeping all the gold medals of the championship tournament. This remarkable feat is a first for our team coached by Fred Colgan and Julien Marchand.
Team Results
After two rounds, the men's team was in second position with 3 shots behind defending champions and championship hosts, the Cégep André Laurendeau Boommerang. As for the women's team, they were comfortably on top of the standings with a lead of 20 strokes.
Round 3 was canceled due to rain and the student-athletes resumed the game for the final round the next day. This was a very exciting day to tighten the gap between the leaders and the Lions. Outstanding performances by Jean-Christophe Gagnon, Louis-Alexandre Jobin-Colgan, and Guillaume Dubois helped the Lions climb to the top of the rankings and earn top honours as Canadian team champion. Jean-Sébastien Cyr and William Forgues, two recruits of the program, also played key roles in the victory.
Élizabeth Labbé, Anne-Sophie Bélanger and Andréanne Laforest Allard continued their excellent work without looking back, finishing 28 shots in front of their nearest rival. They too were able to enjoy the gold medal as well as the winner of Canadian team champions.
Individual Results
Louis-Alexandre Jobin-Colgan ends his collegiate golf career by being an individual gold medallist while rookie Guillaume Dubois finished with the bronze medal. On the women's side, provincial champion Élizabeth Labbé was named Canadian champion while Anne-Sophie Bélanger finished with the bronze medal.
2020 Canadian Championship
The Lions Golf Program is under the excellent supervision of the Fred Colgan Golf Academy, with whom we share the many honours collected over the last 20 years. Our team will defend its titles next year at Golf Lorette, as St. Lawrence will be hosting the 2020 Ping Golf Championship.
Congratulations to all the golfers and their coaches!
