RSEQ Championships 2nd Division Women's Basketball
The St. Lawrence Lions participated at the RSEQ Provincial Championships 2nd Division Women's Basketball on April 5-7th. The event was at CEGEP du Vieux Montreal, where the top 8 teams from both leagues would cross paths.
The first game of the team led by head coach Justin Robert was against the home team, the Spartans. Slightly impressed by the crowd, our Lions had a rather slow start before taking the lead early in the second quarter, lead they protected until the very end of the match. Ariane Doré, RSEQ North-East Conference's Most Valuable Player, was outstanding and scored 17 points in the 50-45 win.
The semi-final game was between the Lions and their great rivals, the Dynamiques from CEGEP Sainte-Foy. Despite a strong start to the Dynamiques, 11 to 3 after just a few minutes, our athletes had not said their last word! Note the outstanding performance of four athletes who together scored 44 of the 60 points: Jeanne Bellerose, Ariane Doré, Rosalie Gilbert and Marie Trépanier.
The last day of competition was a daunting challenge for our Lions as they faced the Giants of the CEGEP Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Again, some athletes stood out: Marie Trépanier, Ariane Doré and rookie Océanne Nadeau. Unfortunately, it was not enough to defeat the powerful Giants, who received their invitation from RSEQ to evolve in Division 1 next year. The Lions return proud, ranking second in the province in Women's Basketball Division 2.
The Lions sports program wishes to congratulate the coaching staff, Justin Robert and Catherine Guay. The work they accomplished was remarkable, as always. We also commend our student-athletes for their stunning progression as well as for their rigor in combining academic and athletic success.
Great job to all!
