Our Cross-Country team at its best
Since summer 2017, the cross-country team has been propelled. The arrival of the great Yves Sikubwabo, double Usport champion and founder of Running Changed My Life, gathered nearly 20 students of our CEGEP to transform the program. Since then, the reins have been transferred to Emma Galbraith, not only a good coaching colleague but a great university-level runner at Tulsa and Laval University as well. Emma completed the supervision of the student-athletes by soliciting Xavier Bertrand, a friend and colleague.
Results were rapidly noticed. Five of our men student-athletes found themselves in the top 100 at each race, which showed a huge improvement in the physical abilities of our runners. Charles-Étienne Boivin showed great leadership among his coaches.
As for women, Béatrice Gilbert distinguished herself by finishing 7th twice and finishing 11th at the provincial championship. Beatrice even contributed to the first national qualification of our women's team, accompanied by Victoria Chouinard, Eva Asselin and Laura Langevin. These four athletes competed at the Seneca College in Ontario at the 2018 Canadian Cross Country Championships; this event marks the history of Lions! Our representatives came back very proud of their 14th position out of the 18 teams present.
Coaches and CEGEP Champlain - St. Lawrence congratulate everyone that contributed to this cross-country team. In addition, let's not forget the excellent work done by the coaching duo, Emma Galbraith and Xavier Bertrand. Thanks to both of you two!
