Champlain St. Lawrence Students Rewarded at the OSEntreprendre Challenge Gala

Tuesday evening, April 2nd, the OSEntreprendre Local Challenge gala took place at Mérici College. The evening brought together members of the Québec City entrepreneurial community, as well as participants from CEGEPS in the region. The evening began with a networking cocktail, followed by a panel of guests who interacted with the audience. The evening ended with the award ceremony.

Two Champlain St. Lawrence projects were nominated for awards in both categories, individual and group projects.

St. Lawrence Individual Project Winner:

Gabrielle Boily, with her “JUSTE JOUER” program, received the Individual project award. The idea behind her project was to create events where soccer players simply came and played for fun. She wanted to increase participation in physical activity by emphasizing the playful dimension of soccer, especially at a young age. It has been proven that most of the kids simply want to play and have more fun in a non-competitive environment.

Gabrielle has demonstrated great initiative in this project and this could revolutionize participative sports in the Québec City region.

St. Lawrence Group Project Winner:

As part of their communication class, Catherine Dufresne and her team decided to start a second-hand clothing store on Campus. The “SLC Thrift Shop” was intended to give a second life to good quality clothing and also to help students who are limited financially. Many students and employees participated in the event, either as donors or as customers. Profits all well as the unsold items were given to The Salvation Army.

“A source of considerable pride, the OSEntreprendre Challenge has been fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship for 21 years by mobilizing the many resources of the education, economic and social networks in Québec’s 17 regions. So far, the OSEntreprendre Challenge has attracted more than a million participants and over 80,000 projects have been submitted.”

Recipients were awarded a $125 scholarship from CEGEP Champlain - St. Lawrence and will now participate in the Regional Challenge which will be held on May 2nd. A regional winner will be announced, and he / she will represent the Québec city Region at the National level in June.
