Champlain St. Lawrence Honors its top Athletes at the Annual Sports Banquet

Champlain St. Lawrence honored its top athletes May 3rd during its annual sports banquet. Many athletes were given awards for their academic performance as well as their athletic performances.

Sarah-Eve Rhéaume and Charles-Éric Bélanger both from the golf program were named athlete of the year for their overall performances this year.

Sarah-Eve’s accomplishments were highlighted at the sports banquet. First, she was named Golf’s Most Valuable Athlete. During the year, she won the Women’s Individual Provincial Championship and was immediately named athlete of the week by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. Just two weeks later, Sarah-Eve played great rounds of golf and won the Women’s Individual gold medal at the National Championship.

Charles-Éric had an outstanding year with the golf program. In his third year at St. Lawrence, he was named CCAA athlete of the week in November 2017, he won the Men’s Individual gold medal at the Provincial Championship and played awesome rounds at the National Championship to win the Men’s Individual bronze medal.


A new award was given to recognize a student-athlete that distinguishes himself or herself by the PRIDE acronym. Passion, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence are the 5 keywords that should describe the Lions candidate. The first edition of the LIONS LEADER AWARD went to Marianne Blouin, the Cross-Country captain and the Volleyball Assistant-Captain. Marianne managed to bring her teammates together and also find time to help in recruiting during the Student-for-a-day volunteer and during the Open House. She also helped the student activities department to fill up minor official positions during basketball and hockey games.

The evening was a great moment to acknowledge the team’s performances. The division 3 Mixed Soccer team was recognized for their regional banner and the division 2 Women’s Basketball team was recognized for their clean sheet, 14-0. The division 3 Women’s Volleyball team was recognized for finishing first in their pool and the golf program was recognized for finishing first at the Provincial Championship and for winning the Women’s Team silver medal at the National Championship.

Other notable recipients are Edouard Normand for receiving both RSEQ Awards, Mérite Académique and Étudiant-Athlètes par Excellence. More student-athletes received RSEQ awards such as Jeanne Bellerose (Rookie of the Year) and Ariane Doré (All-Star Team) from the Lady Lions Basketball program. Marie-Jeanne Gauthier (All-Star Team) from the Volleyball program and Gabriel Larose (Rookie of the Year and All-Star Team) form the Basketball program were also honored by the RSEQ.
