Marie-Emilie Lacroix

Tuesday, March 19th we had the chance to welcome Marie-Emilie Lacroix, author, midwife, teacher, social worker and a warm hearted human being. She is an Innu from the community of Mashteuiatsh.

In order to give a general portrait of challenges faced by Indigenous peoples, she presented pictures she took while she was visiting the community of Kitcisakik, located in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. She spoke about issues Indigenous peoples in reserves face, but also about their ways of living and their shared values. She also took the opportunity to present different objects and their significance and importance to Indigenous cultures such as a canoe, musical instruments and the wampum, a belt that was traditionally used to mark agreements between peoples.

We would like to thank Marie-Emilie Lacroix for her great presentation.

The next Indigenous workshop will be held on April 11, 2019. Michèle Audette, a Canadian politician and commissioner on the national inquiry, will be our guest speaker: Missing and Murdered Women and Girls. Save the date (more information to come)!
