St. Lawrence at the National Model United Nations 2026: Congratulations to Our Delegates!
From March 28 to April 3, 2026, a delegation of twenty-five St. Lawrence students attended the National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York representing Algeria. Fostering global citizenship since 1927, NMUN is the world’s largest, most prestigious, most diverse, and oldest ongoing university-level Model UN.
At the opening and closing ceremonies of this year’s NMUN, the keynote speakers (one of whom is a high-level Pakistani diplomat, the other is the current President of the United Nations General Assembly) acknowledged the current period of disruption that the international order is experiencing, whilst framing it as an opportunity to reshape the future.
Leaders breaking barriers
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Farrukh Khan challenged the students to take the lead. Our students rose to the challenge, demonstrating exceptional passion and sustained engagement throughout the week. Indeed, when giving speeches before their peers and leading their working groups; they listened with openness and respect, whilst defending the position of Algeria; they looked after each other and had fun.
Our delegation also had the opportunity to meet with a top diplomat from the Algerian Permanent Mission to the UN for a Q&A session, have a guided tour of the UN, as well as attend the closing ceremony in the iconic General Assembly Hall.
Their hard work and active involvement during the week were recognised with a number of awards:
- The delegation received a Distinguished Delegation Award
- Noémie Nadeau & Aya Diwane were recognized by their peers on the Human Rights Council with the Outstanding Delegates Award
- Ana Prundas and Aleksandra Moseychuk were recognized by their peers on the Commission on the Status of Women with the Outstanding Delegates Award
- Nathalie Saourine and Léanne Langlois (UNEA) won a Position Paper Award for their research paper
Our delegates were supported by Faculty Advisor Tom Welham and a dedicated team of Head Delegates, whose mentorship, leadership, and organization were instrumental to SLC success at this year’s conference.
Congratulations to you all!
