St. Lawrence Hosts Annual Pedagogical Day
On May 29, faculty and staff gathered for our annual Pedagogical Day, a valuable opportunity for collaboration, professional development, and insightful discussions. The event featured interactive workshops and departmental discussions, providing a platform for educators to reflect on key academic challenges and exchange best practices.
A highlight of the day was the keynote address by Jocelyn Maclure, a professor at McGill University. In his presentation, Critical Thinking and Intellectual Humility: A Roadmap for the Digital Age, he explored the tensions between critical thinking and epistemic dependence through a philosophical lens, offering valuable insights into how we navigate knowledge and information in an increasingly complex digital world.
The event concluded with a special ceremony honoring retiring faculty members and the presentation of the inaugural Betty Ableson Prize. Awarded every second year, this distinction recognizes a member of our support staff or professional team who embodies the same values and dedication that Betty Ableson demonstrated throughout her career. This year, the award was presented to Charles Nadeau.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this enriching day of learning, and we look forward to the upcoming academic year!
A special thank you to Silvie Gosselin, Denis Carrier, Nicholas Theodrakis and Edward Berryman for everything that you have done for the College, and we wish you all a happy retirement!
