English Writing Workshop

Services offered The English Writing Workshop offers students one-on-one support from an English teacher to improve their writing. By booking an appointment online, students can get help with writing style, grammar questions, or review feedback on past essays and exams from any course.
For whom? Open to all SLC students
When and where Appointments are available every week day, except during Reading Week. To access the Fall 2025 workshop schedule and to book an appointment, click here.
How to access To attend the English Writing Workshop, you must book an appointment online by selecting a time slot and entering your name and student number. You may send your written work in advance (as a Word document via MIO) to the teacher you’ve signed up with. On the day of your appointment, click the provided hyperlink to sign in. Attendance will be taken.

English Peer-Tutor Drop-In Service

Services offered The English Peer Tutor Drop-In Service helps students strengthen their writing and speaking skills with support from peers proficient in English. Students can review written work for errors and rehearse oral presentations in a welcoming, student-led environment.
For whom? Open to all SLC students
When and where The Fall 2025  drop-in schedule will be available shortly.
How to access The service is open to all students on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is needed, and there is no time limit for sessions.

Methodology Workshop

Services offered The Methodology and Research Workshop is a one-on-one support service led by teachers to help students strengthen their research and academic writing skills. Through the workshop, students can improve their grades by avoiding common mistakes in referencing, formatting, and research writing.

The workshop offers support with:

  1. APA/MLA formatting
  2. APA/MLA referencing and avoiding plagiarism
  3. Using Zotero and the Zotero plugin for Word and Chrome
  4. Finding and narrowing research topics
  5. Finding and evaluating sources for projects

Centre d’aide en français

Services offered The Centre d’aide en français (room 341) offers several services to help you improve your mastery of the French language, including peer tutoring, the drop-in service, and troubleshooting:

Peer Tutoring: The team of student tutors will help you progress rapidly in your writing skills.

Drop-Ins: A period in which you can stop by without an appointment to speak with a tutor.

Troubleshooting: An appointment-based service to meet a tutor at a set time.

Services offered The Business Workshop offers free drop-in clinics for students who need extra help in their business courses or wish to work in teams on their homework. It also provides you with the opportunity to build your network with other Business students.
