D2 Male Basketball: Great Results!

Student-athletes coached by Matthew Weston have just concluded their best season since the early 2000s. After many years of hard work, the Weston brothers, Peter and Matt, were mandated to change the face of the men’s D2 basketball program. They managed, in just 8 months of work, to classify the team for the playoffs (2018-19).

The team pursued their hard work this season and now the Lions are officially champions of the Northeast Conference regular season. The troop composed of 7 student-athletes who will graduate next May, attacks the next conference championship with confidence and determination.

We should also note the excellent offensive contribution of players such as Alexis Kayonga (217 points), Isaac Sweeney and Gabriel Larose with respectively 194 and 191 points. In this offensive trio, Étienne Sioui was a trigger for the Lions thanks to his explosiveness and his very determined style towards the basket. He also accumulated 183 points for the Lions. Kayonga and Sioui are respectively ranked 6th and 7th best pointers per game in the RSEQ D2 basketball league. Meanwhile, Isaac’s brother, Noah Sweeney, has the third best free throw average in the league with 77.8% success.

The conference championship, March 21-22, in Jonquière will be a great experience for the team!
