Eight St. Lawrence students have been granted research funding by the Fonds de recherche du Qu\u00e9bec (FRQ) in the space of just one year. The FRQ grants funding in the fields of Health, Society and Culture, and Nature and Technology, allowing students to join research projects at the college and undergraduate level.<\/p>\n

Students Sami Benmahbous, Arthur Zimmerman, Andrea Martinez Ortiz, and Isabelle Gagnon were awarded with the College Initiation to Research Scholarship (BIRC) under the Society and Culture branch of the FRQ earlier this term. They have joined large research projects in the field of political science and public policy and are currently hard at work, each under the supervision of Professor Lisa Birch.<\/p>\n

In April, student Ma\u00efn\u00e9 Dupuis Azizah received a BIRC of her own. She will use this funding to complete summer work with Professor Carol-Anne Gauthier before beginning her university studies in the field of psychology this fall. Elisabeth Proteau, also researching psychology under the supervision of Professor Gauthier, was the recipient of a BIRC last summer and has now received the scholarship for a second time.<\/p>\n

But St. Lawrence students have not only found success in Society and Culture. Doroth\u00e9e Grondin and Dominic Gaumont have recently been awarded funding by the FRQ\u2019s Nature and Technology branch. Each student will complete an internship this summer in a research lab at Universit\u00e9 Laval. Grondin will focus on mathematics and Gaumont on chemistry.<\/p>\n

Despite its small size, St. Lawrence is home to many budding researchers. This success could not be possible if not for the level of involvement of the college\u2019s teachers in the world of research. This precious experience will allow each of these students to develop a more profound view of their field and will help propel them toward success in their studies and careers.
