Lions 5-2 Win in Thetford last Friday

After a difficult season start, the St. Lawrence Lions headed to Thetford Mines in search of their first win of the regular season. After dropping a 5-1 decision to College Lafleche in the season home opener and losing 4-2 to Sainte-Foy on the following night, the Lions were hungry, ready to pounce as the smell of victory lingered in Thetford Mines.

Philippe Fortin got the Lions off to a great start, opening the scoring early on a Lions powerplay. His marker gave the Lions to a 1-0 first period lead. Thetford rallied to score two consecutive goals early in the second period, taking a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the second period. Hugo Guillemette answered with two consecutive goals giving the Lions a 3-2 lead mid-way through the second frame. Phillippe Fortin scored his second goal of the game, giving the boys in blue a 2 goal edge before the end of the second frame.

Rookie, Jeremy Pellerin scored the Lions fifth goal with 3 minutes remaining in the game to ice the victory. The Lions registered their first win of the season, defeating Lions former goal tender and transfer, Nicolas Thibault. Lions goal tender David Duquet held the fort, recording 44 saves. Hugo Guillemette was named first star of the game, while David Duquet and Philippe Fortin were named second and third stars respectively.

Lions will host Sorel Rebels on Saturday, September 22nd at 2 PM and Andre Laurendeau Sunday September 23rd in Ancienne Lorette this coming weekend. Join the challenge as the Lions work to post a winning record this coming weekend.
